The Kathryn Louise (Myrold) Omdahl Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established in her name by her sisters and daughters upon the death of Enid Carolyn (Myrold) Burkholder, Kathryn’s mother. Her mother wished to pursue a nursing career but life’s events did not allow for it. Kathryn was a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1978 having left her mark in academics, as a four-year hockey cheerleader, a four-year captain of the ‘Prowlins’ dance line and an accomplished flugelhorn player in the community drum corps ‘TRFinettes’. She went on to become a highly regarded registered nurse working in critical and emergency care along with being a flight nurse for both helicopter and plane emergency calls. Kathryn also co-wrote a flight nurse children’s activity book. Later in life Kathryn suffered from depression/mental illness. In 1999 it became too much to bear and she took her life. This scholarship is designed to honor her life and the lives of the nurses who cared for her and her mother in their times of need.
