Dorothy M. Olson Memorial Scholarship

The Dorothy M. Olson Memorial Scholarship has been established by her children from the proceeds of donations given in her memory when she died in March of 2009. One scholarship will be awarded annually beginning in 2010.  The goal is to provide assistance to a Lincoln High School graduate to continue their post-secondary education with a major in music.  They must have a GPA of 2.5 or better.

Dorothy attended grade school and high school in Thief River Falls.  She was a 1952 graduate of Lincoln High School and she was active in Thespians, Girls Glee Club and the choir.  She was united in marriage to Morris Olson in 1953.  They were lifelong residents of Thief River Falls and raised 8 children (Duran, Cathy, Ross, Merrilee, Natalie, Linette, David and Dianna) who all graduated from Lincoln High School.

Dorothy’s children said she instilled in them a love and appreciation for music of all genres.  While growing up, they recall how their house was filled with the sounds of classical, spiritual, country, and rock and roll playing on the TV and radio.

Her children would like to encourage her love of music to continue by awarding this scholarship to a graduate who shares her passion.
