Norm Peterson & Barry Wilson Scholarship Fund
The Norm Peterson Scholarship Fund was established at the time of his death by his wife, Peg Peterson, and their children, from the proceeds of donations given in his memory. The family decided to establish the scholarship fund for nursing students, to lend them a hand. Norm Peterson was the Northwestern Hospital Administrator for many years during which time his stewardship oversaw many positive changes and a number of extensive building programs. While his respect was great for all the people that made the hospital work, he had the strongest admiration for the nursing staff; they were the voice for and the care givers of the patients… as he would say, "the hospital runs on the backs of the nurses." This fund in December 2009 was expanded and renamed in memory of Barry Peterson Wilson, daughter of Norm and Peg. Barry was a nurse for a number of years working in both the Bagley and Thief River hospitals. Like her father, Barry was a dedicated and passionate advocate for patient-centered healthcare. She recognized the critical role nurses selflessly played in the successful health experience of any individual. Barry was proud to be part of that process.
